Building Skill, Character and Community Through Football and Cheerleading
Wayland Weston Youth Football & Cheer (WWYF) is built on a strong foundation - a purpose and set of values that members are passionate about, a clear appreciation of the unique contribution we provide to our kids and broader community, and a good understanding and dedication to nurturing what drives our resource engine.
Starting with evening practices in early August and running through eight Sunday games in September and October on the Wayland High School turf field and at opponents stadiums in eastern Massachusetts, WWYF attracts kids in grades 2 - 8 and their parents who love the skill, character and community building designed into the program.
American Youth Football, Inc., established in 1996, is a 501c (3) non-profit international youth football organization established to promote the wholesome development of youth through their association with adult leaders in the sport of American football. Rules and regulations are established to ensure that players play in an atmosphere of safety with a competitive balance between teams. American Youth Football is on a mission to GIVE BACK to the community.
Parents and other volunteers in Wayland and Weston run our program, are trained to coach our teams, announce games, choreograph cheers, take game films, hold the chains and do other activities that keep them close to the action and their kids. An active boosters program makes the environment complete with tailgate parties, concessions, an annual adult social fundraiser and end of season awards banquet.
There are many opportunities to volunteer your time and donate your resources to WWYF. Browse this site, click through on the underlined links above or contact a member of WWYF's leadership team to learn more.
I trust you all have started to enjoy this nice weather and watching the snow melt away (yes!). Although many of you are gearing up for spring sports, now is the time we start registration for the 2014 WWYF Football & Cheer Season.
There are some changes and improvements this year that we like to let you all know:
New Registration Process:
We (along with all of the other Bay State Teams) are now registering our participants with Sports Signup. Sports Signup has uploaded all fo the documents for AYF and at the end of the registration process, all you will need to do is print them out and sign documents. We've taken much of the hand cramping paperwork and automated it.
Please read this message before getting started. When you are ready, click here:
At the end of the registration process you will be taken to a web page with links that look like this below:
Please click each player and you will get another screen for each player (below).
Please click each document, print, sign, and date, and save for a time when we will ask for them. We know it's a lot of paper but all necessary to compete.
You can always login and print these later. They will always be there for you to print.
Also. another thing is to make sure you register your second Adult (parent or guardian) so we can get email & phone number information for notification purposes. It will be a screen that comes up to ADD an Adult when you first make a Family Account.
Participant Safety Improvements:
It is our goal to make our program the gold standard in participant safety and we have been doing that for many years by always staying ahead of rest of the other sports in being proactive in the safety of our children. Last year one of our teams was featured on a CNN special as well as being the pilot program for Reebok with their Check Light apparatus.
We understand, that although in games, where we have a certified trainer, we have never had one in the past at practices. So this year, we will be adding a full time certified athletic trainer to our program and will be available for each and every practice, through the entire season. This is unprecedented in youth sports but we feel it is important to make sure that we can take all the necessary steps to ensure a fun & safe experience in our youth sport.
We did have to make an increase in our fees to cover the cost but we all feel it is well worth it.
New Towns Joining the Bay State League:
The popularity of AYF has been growing and this season the Bay State conference has picked up 2 new teams:
Concord Carlisle (Former Pop Warner Program and a fellow DCL Town)
Watertown/Belmont (Former Pop Warner program)
Interested in Coaching?
For those who have coached in the past or haven't coached before, please note that interest during some of the questions during the registration process for your children.
You can also contact Sean Chase
to inquire about coaching football, Marie Campbell/Patricia Berenson if interested in cheer positions
Once the coaching positions are set, we'll have those coaches log back into the registration page to register as coaches.
Pre Season Conditioning Camp (end of July):
We'll once again be holding our hugely successful summer pre season conditioning camp the last two weeks in July. This will be a separate fee of $40 and the camp will run Mon-Thu in the early evening. This helps the kids get ready for football practice as well as credits them conditioning practice time if they plan on missing some of the summer practices. More details to come.
Practice Start Date & First Game:
Aug 4th 2014 is our practice start date. More information is located on the "About us" Tab.
Our first game will be Labor Day Weekend but we will be trying to get a Home game and will most likely play the game on the Friday Night of Labor Day Weekend.
The full schedule will not be released until June but the regular season will be wrapped up by Sunday, October 19th. Playoffs to follow.
